Kanto has a TON of pokemon that, realistically, no one has used.

Original games had Pokemon that were clearly never meant to actually use in battle, and just be a pain in the ass to get.

I used to use Corsola in NU back wgen I used to give a shit about smogon. Mirror Coat + Focus Sash could steal games and Regenerator meant it could still be used after getting hit.

I grinded out Porygon in Gen 1 just cause I thought it was cool. Also I have a gambling addiction.
I feel like Weezing and Muk exist almost purely to be rocket grunt shitmons, in the same way Onix only exists to be used in the first gym.

Tangela in gen 1 is actually quite good due to it's base 100 special. It's not even that late game either, you only need 5 badges for it. As for porygon, it's not great but I could easily see someone using it just because they like porygon.

I tried using one for a bit because I was tired of my grass/poison types getting raped by Sabrinas mons. Actually it performed pretty well for that one gym before I stored it and got my Victreebel back
