I don't know why zoomers assume that people loved Voltorb and considered it a good design. He was just ignored, he wasn't ugly, he wasn't annoying. He was just there and didn't have a stupid face like Vanillite. Point for Voltorb.

If you want the real reason, it's because Gen 5 came out right around the time Gen wunners were becoming adults. And these ""people"" were shocked to find out that not only did Pokemon continue without them this whole time, but the newest game wasn't even going to have their favorites from KANTOOOOOOOOO.
So they were shitting on everything and anything that came from this game. It's only after they got placated by Kanto Pandering (especially Pokemon GO) that they went back to not caring about Pokemon again, and people can discuss Pokemon games in a (kind of almost somewhat) reasonable manner again.

They were bold titles, but pretending like Gen 1 nostalgia cratered "long as fuck cutscenes and pointless philosophical meanderings - the game" is facetious. The Dex was the only thing I DIDN'T dislike about the game.

People are criticising modern objectmons because they're new, not because they're bad.
The worst of them all is still magnemite with its horseshoe magnet and phillips head screws.
Same with overdesigned mons or clothed humanoid mons, we've always had those.

Voltorb is a good design, like Foongus.
