It was meant to represent the common dichotomy of two different radical dreams for an ideal world, the technocrats and the primitivists, civilization and nature. Like Black City and White Forest.

Speculative evolution stuff is cool and I'd like to see a future game take a crack at it, though.

It seems like that at least a few of the Paradox mons are from a billion years into the future/past so I'd assume if the world doesn't just blow up by then that technology would advance so far that it becomes possible to just create living things as robots or worse, modify living things to be cyborgs. Hariyama's magazine tidbit implies pretty heavily that it used to just be an athlete, but makes it vague whether it was a person or a Pokemon which I personally find horrifying. Not that the magazine is actually trustworthy, but hey.

Most of the past designs could work as future ones. Donphan is bigger, stronger, more spikes for defence. Salamence becomes more sleek and aerodynamic. Suicune becomes bipedal, no longer weakened by the sun.
