Semantics matter. I no longer feel comfortable referring to myself as a Pokémon fan as that has potential implications that I might in some way enjoy the disgusting slop the franchise morphed into.

From now on I will always refer to myself as fan of the original Pokémon games or alternatively as a fan of the first Pokémon generation. It's not a meaningless caveat, at this point in time it means an entire world of difference.
