How do you guys classify pokemon with 2 or more members spread out across different generations?

Electabuzz is a good example. Its first form, the 2nd stage, was introduced in gen 1, its baby stage was introduced in gen 2, and then its final stage was introduced in gen 4.

So (to you) is the electabuzz family a gen 1 family, a gen 2 family or a gen 4 family? If you were to sort boxes by generations, where would you put your electivire?
