No matter how hard a NPC like Kieren work & tries, he is destined to be a mere stepping stone for the player.
It doesn't apply to Ash, he doesn't get all the Pokémon, he doesn't win every league, he doesn't get all the girls. He had to work hard for 24 years to reach his goal. Even Liko turned out to be a self inserter who getting six special snowflakes handed to her unlike Ash who got everything though actual efforts.
