Toedscruel has a striking similarity to the War of the Worlds tripods and Martians. Those aliens were described as being hideous octopus like creatures that invaded earth because their home planet of Mars was completely dead and devoid of resources.
So they could have went harder on that front.
Make a pokedex entry or something where paldean tentacruel went from the sea to land because of pollution made their home completely uninhabitable. Then the tentacruel dex entry could talk about how they are a ruthless invasion species or something.
