Pokemon isn't even trying to make actually interesting locations anymore. Just make some loreless illogical empty space, make it ridiculously big, put a lot of random Pokemon from different gens there with no logical rule and call it a fuckin' day. Casuals will cum their dirty pants.

Open world was such a fucking mistake.

Open world and Pokemon is actually match made in haven. The problem is because of the game mechanisms pokemon need to spawn in bigger clusters and in great amount.
Minecraft Pokemon mods already proved that random generation worlds with Pokemon with tons of biomes is way to go. Its best way to encounter pokemon. They do need to make proper cities with wild mons on streets as well and make a lot more mons appear only in propper conditions.

Also, this is the answer to question why people want remakes so much. Because they're tired of exploring endless empty outdoors (or indoors, in this case) with nothing but random Pokemon attacking here and there. Remakes, while cheap, at least guarantee some decent world experience.

PLA did it mostly right, it seems what spawns and where is mostly thought out and consistent as opposed to SV that happily spawns pokemon in impossible locations for them.

Pokemon that can't swim spawn on islands. Pokemon that can't climb spawning top of sheer cliffs. The pokemon that spawn on top of the massive crystals in area zero that have no way of getting up there. There is absolutely zero attention being placed on where pokemon can be spawned except for general zones and restrictions such as swimming pokemon only being in water.

Don't forget Pokemon spawning inside walls and below the floor. I saw a clip of a shiny Roaring Moon spawned below the floor in the cave and the player only noticed it because the tips of its wings happened to poke through the ground when they were on top of it.

SV actually tried to make Pokémon biomes make sense unlike PLA.
PLA is just your average set location of places were pokemons can spawn with a percentage rate. They don’t have to take into account different biomes because they are all separated.p to begin with
SV has an extended sheet for each Pokémon and depending if there is water nearby, rocks nearby, sand nearby, shadows nearby, cliffs nearby etc each Pokémon spawns. And yes it causes the spawn to get a bit weird but it’s much better than PLA by default
