>>55068245I didn't care as much about the mysteries. I was curious but it was never the thing I liked the most about the game. Besides Arven, my favorite part was Team Star. I really liked the team and the individual members and their little backstories. Their scenes both in flashback, at the end confronting Penny and later at school (both in vanilla postgame and after Indigo Disk) have a sense of camaraderie and friendship I'm really not used seeing in Pokémon.
Then the DLC came and the whole Kitakami storyline easily became my favorite part of the whole game, which rose my expectations and in turn made Indigo Disk fall flat for me. It wasn't even that the story of Teal Mask was that good, it was more the atmosphere. Kitakami was just a really well put together place, maybe it's just my personal nostalgia for rural areas and the fact I've wanted Pokémon to return to a Japanese region, I don't know.
I also think this game succeeds in making the player bond with legendary Pokémon like the Raidons and Orgepon in a way that Gen 7 tried to do with Nebby but didn't really get it. This is the first time I actually cared about legendary Pokémon as more than macguffins in the story and wanted to use them in my team because they were these cool things in the story. I did use Nebby back in Moon but it was more due to attachment to Lilly. And because I really needed a Ghost type, my Froslass was ass.
