The 4 gimmicks from Megaevolution to Terastalization are representative of the 4 steps toward the realization of the Magnum Opus, the "philosopher's stone" or Azoth.
Megaevolution is Nigredo, destruction and dissolution of the prime matter.
Z-moves are Albedo, purification of the matter.
Gigantamax is Rubedo, the "reddening", instilling the matter with properties inherent of the body and soul.
Terastalization is Citrinitas, the "yellowing", coagulation of the matter into a stone.
With the last 2 being defined as a unified process in later alchemical texts and spiritual alchemy.
You could also interpret it as stellar Terastalization being Albedo, as it turns the pokemon "neutral" in a way, and Z-moves being Citrinitas since it is depicted as a perfect sync that is manifested with bright rays of light, and that harmony is often referred to as a crystallization. Light, by the way, is extremely significant.
The stone is what Terapagos is, its body is something it creates by itself by using its own properties, and it's also why it's capable of growing and shrinking whenever it wants.
Terapagos, the philosopher's stone, is also linked to the creation machine in Area Zero, as the philosopher's stone gives mastery over matter and spirit, and allows its holder to create anything, achieve eternal life, turn tin to gold, etc.
There's plenty of other references to alchemy, for example the gigantic alchemical circle in Area Zero.
