any apple grown from a branch that's not grafted isn't a food apple. Only about 1 in 80,000 apple trees makes food fit to eat. Then cuttings from that rare tree are taken and surgically grafted onto other apple trees to make them grow fruit that tastes like that rare tree.
Also, crabapples specifically, the most common wild cultivar, are typically exclusively grown as ornamental, excluding some south-east asian cultures which use them specifically for their ludicrously sour flavor, usually combined with salt, chili, and shrimp paste to make a condiment. But south-east asians also eat dogs and I'm pretty sure you don't consider dogs foodmon. Starve a human long enough and they'll start finding ways to eat anything they can put their hands on.
