>>55079461Honestly the fact that the DLC is entirely doubles was the main benefit I think. I'm a comp singlesfag who's never touched VGC but as far as in-game goes doubles is definitely the better option for making the game actually challenging.
It's just way too easy to sweep a team in singles because the AI doesn't know how to handle things like setup moves nor does it know how to switch, which is by far the most important element of comp singles. There's a reason why difficulty romhacks like Kaizo Emerald not only buff the trainers but also nerf you by making it way harder to get good Pokemon, there's no other way to make AI singles challenging. In doubles though switching isn't as important so the AI loses less by not doing it and you can't just click Nasty Plot and sweep because against 2 Pokemon it's much harder to get a situation where you can safely set up or even continue the sweep. I hope we see more doubles going forward.
