The whole game we were devoid of alternate timelines being mentioned, so seeing the original professor say something else was their initial motive would let people come to that same conclusion, which is "oh cool, his motive used to be this but we gave him briar's book that mentioned future pokemon successfully being attained", not "now we ignore that the AI shoved time travel only the entire game and pretend what they meant was timelinefaggotry the whole time even though they as they successful operators of the machine would have said that if it were actually true".
If anything, you're the one shoehorning timelines as having anything to do with paradoxes after it's explicitly stated throughout the abase game that they are purely time displaced and nothing else. Briar book or not, the goal obviously changed.
