A fourth, more subtle concept in its wheelhouse is "knockoff". It's a wannabe Clefable. Cutesy pink creature. Similar movepools. Originally the same types (and still partially shares it now). Originally the same ability (and still both can have it). Has three stages with one being a baby and the final being a Moon Stone evolution. In gen 1 Jigglypuff even appears in almost the same area. Jigs appears in Route 3 just before Clefairy's Mt. Moon; like a good knock-off it wants to snag your attention first.
Despite all these similarities it's just not as good. Worse stats, worse moves, wonkier appearance. It will never measure up to Clefable.
