>>55098148Gen 2. About half way into Pokémon Johto the Pokémon craze started dying. Kids at school weren’t bringing Pokémon cards or games with them anymore. This is around the time less people started watching Dragon Ball Z as well. When games like Pokémon Snap or Stadium came out, the hype was at it’s peak. I was at an airport in 1999 and there was a long, long line of people waiting for something, curious, I lined up as well. It was to play Pokémon Snap on one of those Snap Stations. Fast forward to when Pokémon Colosseum came out on GameCube (for example), nobody was even talking about it.
Games like Ruby/Sapphire helped revive Pokémon’s popularity but it was never the same because there is no possible way you could have that same hype from 99’ again, I’ve still never seen anything like it in my life. If you weren’t around or old enough to see what it was like in 1999, imagine what it was like when everyone was playing PokemonGo but times that by 100. It will never be done again. Now, and completely understandably, Pokemon has made some mistakes. Given that it’s been over 20 years now.. and you can’t just go back and erase those mistakes. They have to try and compensate for them while trying to keep that compatible integrity but also appealing to a market for children and young adults. I’m not gonna shit on what it’s become because I’m just glad it’s still around and I can walk past stores and still see Pokémon stuff. I always hoped when I was a kid Pokemon wouldn’t die and although it’s not the same, still appreciate it.
