He wasn't Gary, he wasn't Brock, he was the oversleeping kid dreaming of better things that wasn't the first pick, like all of us, he was trying to make it. And by fuck he was gonna try, even if he had to tank hits to protect his Pikachu that hates him. THAT is cool. He's not afraid to fail and learn. He doesn't have a meltdown the moment things don't go his way. Unlike other protagonists that are shit out of Jupiter's divine asshole and are only presented the illusion of challenge with fake failures. His fuckups are real and he's earned his way through.
He wasn't some neutered fag the likes we see now, he had a real passion. The delusion that masters win at life three times over by the time they were 10 is some pussy shit for the likes of smoothbrains that don't understand how much pain and failure and hard work goes into mastery of a skill or area. Even at the top you will still fail. The masters just learn to accept they can, they must always improve. Ash was no casual in his attitude.
