>>55111484that's extremely fair. i'm a hardcore johto fan, always have been, always will be, but i understand why people dislike it. i think the atmosphere is extremely comfy, and it makes me happy to play. i can get lost playing Crystal even now.
there's a lot to do there, but i don't think it's for everyone. i like the day/night and weekday system, i wish both of them would come back. playing every day for a few minutes feels good, since i know the game will be slightly different than it was yesterday. the national park was cool, i liked the bug catching contest(shame it had to replace safari zone, but that's what HGSS is for).
a lot of the designs are cute, and i like them. in general, i prefer cute pokemon. i love Silver, and i think it's a shame Kris got replaced.
even HGSS can't separate johto from the 90s, and i think that's okay. it makes me happy to go back in time like that. i wasn't necessarily happy as a child, but i was always happy in johto. i still am.
i think johto is special, it's a region where you can just do whatever you want. focusing on the main quest never feels required, and i've spent months of my life playing the game here and there while never moving to the next town; i'll level a few pokemon, or get a few points for my Blue Card, or whatever, but i never feel pressure to move on. i move when i'm ready. the only ticking clock is my cartridge battery(and my lifespan, but eh), and i specifically bought like 30 backups for Crystal exclusively.
next time you're in a johto mood, try to play it like that, if anything i said makes any sense. don't try to beat it, just relax and get lost in the world. find something to do, do it, and take a break. come back tomorrow, do something new. that's how johto should be experienced, i think. no other region works that way, and i think that's why it's my favourite. sinnoh's a close second, but it has a lot of johto DNA.
sorry for the rant, oops.
