I know /vp/ is gonna have a kneejerk reaction and discredit basically everything about Gen 8 / 9 like a Genwunner did with 3 onwards. Guess I shouldn't expect nuance on here though

Paradox mons are stupid af and shouldn't be classed as new pokemon and I don't count them as individual and it's a cheap way of hitting the 1000th Pokemon mark.

Too many 2 stages, some of the 3 stages didn't need to happen either AKA Pawmo line.

3 dog lines and none of them have any connection.

Wiglett and Toadscool were very unnecessary.

Without internet you wouldn't be able to evolve Finizen, meaning Quaxly's line is the only Water type line that can evolve.

I don't have a favorite, I like Cetitan and that's about it, the rest I'm meh about.

Best: Skeledirge (finally a badass starter) Charcadet line (especially arma) (best designed legends), hyrdapple, a few others. All really cool.
Worst: Maushold line (Fucking hate that hello kitty looking shit), Klauf, Shroodle (unnecessary and ugly mon), Veluza (no one’s favorite nor did anyone ask for it), Dondozo (ugly).

The cross gens were probably my favorite aspect of this gen. So many mons got great upgrades, from Kingambit, to Hydrapple, to Anihilape, not to mention Dudunsparce. I hope that this trend continues, it’s easily my favorite thing because it gives new blood to old pokemon. Only wish is that more Gen III to V mons need cross gens

Middle of the pack. A lot of designs are quite boring to me like Mabostiff, Scovillain, the tumbleweed or Tauros.

My favorites

Samba dancer is done quite well. Like >>55113862 said, they could have leaned more on the peacock theming. It's my favorite animal. Birds legs would have been better too, I see no reason for the pants.
I feel like it's been a while since we got a good Fighting type (Urshifu is broken) so a nice addition imo.

It looks huge. Also, we finally got a great defensive rock type.

It's plain but it charmed me.

I like weird-looking Psychic types. It's colorful too, I love it.

This image is old but still mostly accurate. The green squares were from teamplanning, ended up changing what I actually used. Decent dex over all. Not great but not many really bad designs.

I would say my favorites are Hydrapple, Klawf, Clodsire, Mabosstiff, and Wattrel.

There's some really solid stuff this gen but for every bombirdier there's a gholdengo, for every glimmora there's a spidops. You can tell that many designs were modeled before they were drawn and they're much worse off for it. Imagine a lokix that looked more like a cool bug and less like my first unity project.
I mostly enjoy the cross gen evos, convergent mons, and regional forms. Archaludon isn't good but at least it's a step up from duraludon.
Some of the paradoxes are cool; the Johto dinos, slither wing, and sandy shocks are especially fun. But many of them fail to be appreciably different from their sources, like almost all of the robots. Robo hydreigon deserves a special shoutout for being the most disappointing.

It's ok.
Starters and legendaries are kinda weak.
Tinkatink, Tinkatuff and Tinkaton are great.
Gholdengo as the 1000 Pokémon feels like an insult.

Under average but not bad.

I hadn't realized how many pokemon from gen 9 liked, really, only a few I don't like but mostly I like or at least tolerate them all, some of them are specially cool be completely new pokemon, legendaries, paradox or new evolutions.
Way better than Galar, comparable to Alola. Kalos still had the best new additions tho, but with the small number of new pokemon that probably was because they scrapped most of the bad mons.

Gen 9 gave me 6 (six) new 1-2%bro. Honestly, given this and other aspects from the game, it's the best Gen since Gen 4.

7/10, better than average but shame about the games and every pokemon added after the original release is awful.
As terrible as Pokemon might be they do a good job with making the Pokedex feel cohesive. Paldea screams weird and quirky designs, and it's great in that sense. Unfortunately most people let the games influence their view of the Pokedex and they can't even imagine that they are intentionally put together thematically.

probably the best regional dex since gen 4 or 5. really big fan of tinkaton, cetitan, orthworm, and bombirdier, plus hydrapple, farigiraf, kingambit, annihilape, and especially dudunsparce are fantastic cross-gen evo's. i give it a 9 out of 10, generations, that is! :D

Annihilape and Sinistcha are my favourites, though I don't think having two designs based on old Pokémon be the best is exactly a sound endorsement for gen 9
