It's never confirmed they battled, although you would presume they did. It's not unthinkable that Cynthia flattened this nerd, she is undoubtedly the best trainer in Sinnoh with an incredible team as well. Ash's shitty Sceptile managed to down Darkrai, imagine what her Garchomp would do.
