>>55124903It's not that they're inherently bad. They're often used as a lazy way to pad out a design to distinguish it from a predecessor or compensate for a lack of other characteristics. In doing so, they tend to look like ugly growths. That's not always bad, either, because all pocket monsters being cute would start to undermine the idea that they're supposed to be monsters. What is bad is slapping them onto decent designs to make an incoherent mess, especially if it would very obviously hinder that creature's mobility or add additional weak points.
