Training your pokemon, however, has always been quintessential to Pokemon, both in practice and in spirit. Plenty of games (especially RPGs, which pokemon is) require similar "work", because the team/character/setup end result is made satisfying.
If you don't care about that aspect of Pokemon, then just play something else instead of arguing that Pokemon is wrong because you don't like it. Or just use showdown.
