I did in Gen 4, although I did do some *slight* cheating to do so in that I used an action replay code to modify the speed at which safari zone objects leveled up (the amount of time you'd need to wait for certain mons to spawn is frankly ridiculous) everything else was legit though, including trading with others to obtain what I couldn't in my own copy

Only in the first three gens. And for gen 3 I had to use emulators for Colosseum/XD and a GB Operator to transfer over to my cartridge.

got arceus for gen 4 earlier this year using the void glitch. hadn't realized it had advanced to the point where you could get to the hall of origin and start the scripted battle

I didn't really give a shit until Gen 6, when I realized that since I had all my old save files I was only like fifteen Pokemon away from finishing the National Dex anyway. Now I always shoot for it. I didn't play SS but I still made it a point to get all of the Pokemon through the GTS.

Do Mythicals count for you guys? I'm missing a few of them like Volcanion and Marshadow and I have no way of obtaining them legit until GF decides to either redistribute them or give them the Meloetta treatment.

If it's impossible to get it legit then I'd give it a pass. Gen 3 can use glitches or flash carts with distribution ROMs to get Deoxys, Jirachi and Celebi, and DS games can connect to fan servers to get distributions but that probably won't even won't count as legit for a lot of people.

SV was the first time I've finished a pokedex, the reason being I had no friends to get the other version exclusives.
I still have no friends, but the random trades make it possible.

I did in gen 6 & 7. I got them all in gen 9 as well.
I went back to gen 3 a couple of years ago and finished the dex using event distribution roms for mythicals.

I have a live Hoenn dex in my copy of Sapphire which was pretty fun. I gave every single pokemon retarded nicknames too, I kind of want to load it into an emulator and review it or something as a gag.

I had to cheat to nickname my bonus disk Jirachi though so it's not legit.
