For the form/forme stuff, in Japanese most Pokemon forms were labeled "X no sugata", aka boring Japanese, and other forms were labeled "X forumu", aka fancy English. (Yes, English is fancy for Japanese people) So they needed to preserve that fanciness in English and we ended up with "forme".
