To explain my rank, Gen 3 is what I grew up with, I had played Gen 1 on a Gameboy Color but I was a kid, didn't really think much of it, got to Moltres and pretty much didn't finish the game. Gen 3 was the school phase and in part Gen 4 was the same, but my interest was slowly dying out during Gen 4 despite it's brief year of friendships I made with it.
I've had several points where I was just growing out of it and planned to end it at Gen 4, my cousin got me a copy of BW and I felt like I had to play it out of obligation, fast-forward a few years and I was buying the sequel, Gen 5 is currently my favorite but at the time I almost dropped Pokemon, I just felt like I had to move on. Gen 6 was pretty much just following behind my hype with Gen 5, XY was nothing special, but ORAS I spent countless hours with my cousin playing this, I wish I played Gen 2 up to this point, this is probably the joy Johtofags felt at the time of HGSS. Gen 7 was also riding on ORAS, which I didn't dislike, but my naive ass thought USUM would be a sequel like BW2, fuck me. UNecrozma was fun though. Gen 8... I skipped it. Pokemon died for me here. My cousin attempted to do the same thing as he did in Gen 5 with Gen 9, but I didn't completely mesh with it as much as I did 5. Good games though.
