The Type Expert tournaments tap into a different kind of skillset than most other battle facilities. Like, the most teambuilding challenges you get outside of it are maybe your rental type ones like the Battle Factory, and in those cases it's a bit different. I guess an argument can be made about the GameCube titles but if we go down that route you get to praising DP for the dreadful Pokemon pool and that's simply incorrect. B2W2 has good variety overall. One could argue Emerald is better, but given B2W2 has the more problem solving orientated Pokestar Studios that otherwise is really only represented in GoD's Battle Sims and Emerald has the war crime that is the Battle Palace, I'm willing to dock points from the otherwise excellent Emerald.

It is though. Literally the entire challenge of battle facilities is being able to play consistently enough that you can win dozens of matches in a row. Beating a few isolated rounds against an NPC is completely meaningless and I’m better off just playing PvP at that point.

Nope. Winning 50 is inherently more challenging because you have to deal with a greater variety of teams and it gives more opportunities for RNG to fuck you over and force you to adapt to it.

Yes it does because the teams are varied, the NPCs rise in difficulty and most importantly you can't use in-game team cheese.
PWT is fanservice. That's it.

The entire challenge of battle facilities is seeing how many battles you can endure before the AI just starts spamming OHKO moves, since there's nothing else they can throw at the player that works.

You have to recall that the games were following up HGSS's 16 gym leaders, the highest of any title (besides GSC obviously which matched it). It was novel and a great send off to the games with spritework to have all the trainers people knew show up for a last hurrah while also having more substance than just arbitrary cameos. Fanservice isn't a bad thing inherently.
