If I take an page out of the Koharuchad and guess their movement based on the preview, I'd say that they are more likely to be in the Asado Deserts, where the next closest character is Kofu. Probably would result in a cook-off between Murdock and him, which I wouldn't mind.

I am aware of that. That's why I guess based on their surroundings to narrow down which ones are most likely to pop up. That's how the Koharufag narrowed down Hatenna as the first capture candidate before the summaries and titles for those episodes were released.

There's plenty of characters that met ash that would have 0 reason to mention him if they appeared again. If they go to sinnoh you know they're gonna have cynthia mentioned/show up, and like I said, it's not like they NEED her to bring ash up.

And then there's characters like sabrina. If she ever shows up ever again in any series she can just be like her game counterpart with no mention of her little girl doll version outside of a quick handwave to how she went through a phase.

These are the most cucked protags of all time, holy shit. I know this isn't a unique viewpoint but the constant, hyper-competent presence of Friede really limits what Liko and Roy are capable of. I know this series is stepping away from the shounen 'get-stronger-to-beat-the-next-opponent' formula, but one of Pokemon's core tennants IS gaining experience to grow stronger... At this point, Sprigatito and Fuecoco have achieved so little that it's hard to imagine them suddenly evolving.

It'd be fine if Liko and Roy didn't progress at all, and their entire point was to be entertaining, dynamic characters that are fun to watch each week, but they're really, really dry. Even within his own high-energy boy archetype, Roy is relatively reserved compared to Ash and Goh, who were more spastic. Liko and Roy do so little as characters that I'm not sure if we're meant to tune in for them, or for something else. What am I missing? Why is this anime so bad?

So narrowing down the candidates to Asado Desert if it's most likely going to be that location it pends between that ghost bush thingy, Tadbulb and Charcadet if it's it Paldeamons only.
Not sure about ghost bush but Tadbulb could be fueling and Charcadet is of course the candidate to create the counterpart of Ceruledge. Neat

The trainer progression in this series makes no sense. They treat getting stronger as some kind of casual thing when it should be a priority given that the Explorers show up whenever they least expect it and keep coming back. They really need to create a scenario that puts Friede out of commission or otherwise renders him unable to swoop in for the save because they’re never gonna take things seriously so long as they’re got the training wheels on

Crazy how it ended up this way. The character designs are so good and the first handful of episodes set up what felt like this huge adventurous vibe, but alas. Their hesitation to do anything action-y involving Liko is damn depressing, when they established that her goal is "understanding Pokémon feelings" and made all of her ancient boss battles into "use Leafage to make them calm down" moments, I realized it was over. Roy is dead weight. Friede has no storyline outside of being badass and confident. There are too many bad guys all doing the same thing.

We spent like 15 episodes in Galar and only one game character/location appeared, the rest could have taken place in bumfuck nowhere, so they've already blown the world traveling premise. If that was the last of Galar, I'm going to laugh hard at the people who claimed this series was going to bring more justice to Galar than JN

The final starter evos is a twisted leg for me in gen 9. Croc evolving seems like more pain to animate. On the other hand the leitmotif of Roy's team being based around sound will eventually lead up into evolving it. So my guess is that Croc will reach the first stage and stays that way until the endgame arc to strike the balance between progression and keeping his proportional goof.

It's retardedly faggy and boring. Legends are powerful mons that need you to prove your strength to them as a trainer by beating the shit out of them not abused trauma victims with hurt feefees. Which (as the person you're replying to) depresses me because she made a good impression early on. Her design is strong, flowy and cute without being TOO cute, and her disposition seemed unique compared to Ash. It'd have been fun to watch her grow as a trainer-- but it seems like she's already done? She has a broken cat that can calm down legendaries with leaves and a magical turtle that can show legendaries their traumatic memories. If G-Moltres and a cool veteran Lapras weren't too strong to be talked down, I'm not sure what there is ahead for her to overcome. Not to be faggy myself but I feel bad for young girls that this is 'their character'. Even though Liko is the primary character of this series, she, as a girl, isn't allowed to fight, struggle, appear foolish, have intense rivalries, or action oriented goals.

I mean seriously, when Turtle saw Amethio in physical form for the first time and Hatmon had such a panic attack before dropping dead to the ground, you can't tell me that Babypagos isn't going to be considering gutting that Boy's face for past sins.

Made a guess a few months back before the Hatenna ep summaries dropped that she would catch a chewtle or the sorts, but seeing how it ties into Liko's progress. Considering Hatenna's character in this one, it might be a really rash or aggressive one to create a growing contrast that gives out further incentives to improve.

They don't battle, anon. Fuecoco has never single-handedly defeated a single opponent, and Sprigatito has hardly done much better outside of walloping Conia's Golduck once or twice. Most of their training sessions have "land one hit" as their win condition so it's not like they've been training their asses off.

/a/, having not seen those specials, probably doesn't care too much so long as it's better than trAsh. To them it's just another standard anime airing.

The traveling aspect is probably the most disappointing thing about Horizons. The Pokemon world just feels so "lifeless" for a lack of a better term. JNs had this issue as well, so maybe it is just me. But then I see the ending frames for some of the old movies and feel invested in the Pokemon world again.

In the fanfic meta, Skeledirge is OU while Ceruledge is UU.

In a non-fanfic not-videogame world, I'd say Skeledirge would still be stronger.
Skeledirge is bulky stand-your-ground type pokemon that leans into special attacks that have a wide splash or are nigh impossible to dodge, so Ceruledge's speed, fragility, and Weak Armor ability wouldn't do it many favors. Plus, Skeledirge's low stature would make melee attacks incredibly awkward for Ceruledge.

Although, if we operate under 4-move-limit rules, it's more likely that a Skeledirge would have a bad moveset while Ceruledge would for the most part have a viable one. In this scenario it boils down to chance, like all 4 move limit cancer does.

Human fists and weapons are already canonically strong enough to defeat and kill pokemon. Mundane swords especially have canonically been used to genocide most pokemon in Sinnoh. A feat accomplished by a single crazed man.

Keep in mind though, Pokemon are tough little shits. Even in real life with our existing animals, some of them have thick enough skills that they literally deflect bullets. It's why boars are so terrifying even today.
Most Pokemon would still get hurt from guns, but don't expect it to be like shooting rabbits. I'd bet even a Rattata would shrug off 9mm's unless you hit a soft spot.

All the human who can hurt Pokémon with a fist has super strength to shatter large boulder with a punch and even than they can beat small & physically weak Pokémon. Even Bea with her training, broke her arm while sparring with Machamp.

We have yet to see a weapon that can kill a Pokémon except for Ultimate weapon that use X & Y legendary as power source.

The idea that Pokemon gave the GameBoy a second life is often repeated, but there does seem to be a lot of truth to it. Picrel is from Masakazu Kubo's book about the early Pokemon corporate strategy. As the guy at ShoPro in charge of the anime, manga, etc., Kubo has a vested interest in attributing the success of Pokemon and the GameBoy to the anime and such, but the numbers themselves paint a compelling picture. Even having lived through Pokemania, the scale of things that happened at this point is just impossible to wrap my mind around.

I didn't realize until this morning that Dogasu had actually published/translated two chapters (since the pages they're contained on look the same), but given just the random asides that are put in there, the book as a whole seems like a huge resource.

The Kubo book I'm referencing is Pokemon Story (ポケモンストーリー). If you're in Japan and can buy things domestically, there's probably used book markets and the like that have copies. It's possible there are a few libraries that even have copies, though none that I've found on this side of the globe. Otherwise, the cheapest I have seen are on AmazonJP, which won't ship overseas. Ebay might, but the copies I've found are upwards of ~$300 USD.

If the current order I'm trying to make goes through, I do have access to a book scanner and some OCR stuff, so even if I can't translate it fully, I can probably put a pdf up on archive or somewhere else.

Forgot to add, the Shudo stuff isn't a book, but rather his blogs. They're all available online, though I'd suggest using archive when available since the site (animestyle) doesn't use https certification. It's all Japanese, but I've been able to read through them with my elementary Nipponese.

They don't appear to be translations off of 4Kids' words (or French dubtitles, since all non-JP dubs are apparently based off of English). I compared episode 1 of AG against the Pocket Monsters subs since those are generally accepted as accurate, and then the 4Kids dub. I used the scene where May chooses Torchic as a reference.

>In 4Kids, May complains that Treecko is "creepy," while PM has her saying it glared at her. The French says "Il me dévisage," which is "he's staring at me." It's a bit more specific than what 4Kids says.
>Mudkip in 4Kids "didn't do a single thing I asked it to do," while in PM it "didn't listen to what I said back there." French says something similar: "n'a pas ecoute mes ordres, tout à l'heure," "it didn't listen to my orders earlier." Again, just a bit more specific.
>In 4Kids, Ash responds "how could that little guy cause trouble?" In PM, he just says he thinks its obedient and cute. French: "Il a l'air si obéissant et mignon," which, yeah, obedient and cute. Ash implies the same thing, but the wording is very different.

Overall, there isn't much of an egregious difference to pin down, but given the subtleties here, the French subs mirror PMSubs more than 4Kids. Maybe they used PM as a base for their translation, but considering they go further than PM does, we can reasonably assume that they have their own translators, and they do more than dubtitles. They seem to be decent. Again, only 52 episodes, but its easier than raw Japanese audio if you're an English speaker.

Horizons favors more on humans over Pokemon. The Pokemon which I observed in Horizons are treated as mere tools in general. There is not much of wildlife as well in general unlike the previous Journeys Series. In my opinion, it feels like a generic human anime with Pokemon that just exists for the sake of existing.
