I find it funny that the Japanese side of the franchise seems more willing to acknowledge that pokémon can be dangerous. Like this cutesy children's song about Gengar tormenting and possessing a random office lady.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f62CIPLU6T8Stuff like Poltchageist's reveal video goes for a "horror for kids" vibe I really don't see the International side of the brand really dabbling into (yes, that got translated, but only because it's a reveal video, and a lot of western fans were super weirded out by it). Maybe it's because Japan is more open to seeing these more mystical types of Pokémon as akin to youkai?
I think the games and game-adjacent material make it pretty clear some ghost and psychic Pokémon can be dangerous, be it out of malice or mischievousness, and often we see psychic specialists portrayed as either paranormals themselves or experienced/strong trainers (among the stronger gym leaders or E4 members). Ghost trainers seem more normal but you do see instances of trainers possessed by their own Pokémon every once in a while (like the shamans in the Pokémon Tower and Mt. Pyre or that one kid with a Sandygast in gen 7).
