Not a regular on this board and I generally stay away from insane Pokemon fandom discourse. I played Platinum for the first time right before BDSP came out. I then immediately played Shining Pearl. I enjoyed Shining Pearl. Why don't people like these remakes again? Tell me why I'm wrong.

If you played the DS games then you're essentially playing a Switch port under the disguise of a remake. You liked Gen 4 apparently very much so it's not shocking to not find anything inherently wrong with it. But keep in mind that expectations were built on the instances of previous remakes and this is where BDSP colossally fucked up.

I did really enjoy Platinum. Gen 4 was the only one I missed out on way back and I had to rectify that before BDSP hit. I'm fine with it being a 1:1 remake. I've also not played ORAS yet and heard nothing but complaints that it removed content. FRLG and HGSS really fucked everyone's heavy expectations up, huh?

Anon, like the second post mentioned, expectations were built on ORAS since it's a fully 3D game. If you said that they removed content, then that would've been no problem if it was the same since ORAS also offered something else in return for it.
But with BDSP it's literally the same game. So aside from maybe Save-data bonuses for other games, you can spend the 60 bucks on any other full-priced game instead.

ORAS actually added content. BDSP forced you to use the first 493 Pokemon. At least FRLG allowed you to use Johto and Hoenn Pokemon, albeit after getting the National Pokedex.

It was not made by GF, so thats why it sucks. PLA was supposed to be the Gen 4 remake but they reworked it into a brand-new game and asked another company (ILCA) to do a lazy last minute cash grab "remake" that is exactly feels exactly the originals but worse in every possible way. Almost nobody enjoyed BD/SP, it is probably way more hated than SW/SH and S/V outside of this place.

They're fine. Better than the original games and they don't make retarded changes for no reason like the other remakes (HG/SS forcing you to catch Ho-Oh/Lugia, ORAS "free Mega Lati@s lmao")
The downside is they cost $60 and some of the modern features are badly implemented (unavoidable Friendship bonuses) but things like a functional Underground and being able to get all 493 Pokémon can make up for that for a lot of people

Pretty much, until you get to the postgame rematches it's a virtually identical experience to DP at its core, albeit with wider Pokemon availability (that's exclusive to the player) through the Grand Underground, the existence of the Fairy Type and mandatory Affection Boosts that'll make your Pokemon objectively more broken than the enemy.

Of course you can literally always be BETTER than the NPCs, but the difference is Affection gives you BROKEN benefits that NPCs aren't allowed to have like built-in higher crit rates, higher evasion rates, the ability to cure status ailments at the end of the turn, and the ability to potentially chain free Endures every time the enemy is about to attack you for KOing damage, meaning no matter how much the enemy tries to pummel you at 1 HP, you just plain won't fucking die.

... You gotta be fucking kidding me. One of the few hacks I was actually looking forward to, and they pull this stunt. One of the many reasons I hate modern nuzlockes nowadays. That and the fact that they don't actually use random shitmons the game gives them, because one encounter that only gives them 67 farts instead of 69 piss means they have to restart everything from scratch. It's not forging bonds with Pokemon you'd never consider using, it's the equivalent of blowing up a baby toy because you tried to put a square in a circle hole.

This in itself is pretty bad, but what really kills the games is that this is pretty emblematic of the game design that went into BDSP in general. They just slap new features and updates from the new games onto DP without any consideration given for how this actually affects the overall experience. Oh yea, and they're fucking ugly. Say what you want about OG DP but at least those games had a nice visual style that felt appropriate for the DS
