i think they could have fixed her by just making her goal more relevant and giving her ACTUAL dragons maybe? Why the FUCK did she have an excadrill? Why couldn't it be a Zweilous that didnt listen to her?
She also had this sort of running gag of mistaking dragons that arent dragon-type as being dragon type, like when she met Ash's Charizard, which I did think was funny. But I think that could have made an interesting development arc to give her a legitimate non-dragon to use but still fits her motif. Instead of Emolga, how about Archen to match her game counterpart? She could have shown disinterest since its not actually a dragon and learned a lesson about something something dragons can be defined in different ways and then Archen evolves and learns Dragon Claw.
