Gholdengo has a broken ability that makes it immune to all status moves. And by "status moves" that's not "moves that inflict status". It's every move that doesn't deal damage. Including Defog. And it's also Ghost-type, so it blocks Rapid Spin.
Because of him, the hazard meta in gen 9 is huge. Spikes are better than ever because your opponent can no longer undo 3 turns of setup with 1 turn of removal. Not as easily, at least.
Nearly half of the mons in OU right now (Great Tusk, Gholdengo, Hatternene, Gliscor, Deoxys-S, Samurott-H, Glimmora, Cinderace, Meowscarada, Skarmory, Clefable, Ting-Lu, Torkoal, Lando-T, Corviknight, Excadrill, Clodsire, Heatran, and Toxapex) play a role pertaining to hazards in some way. Some more often than others, and all of them are good for other reasons, but it just shows that hazards are bigger than ever.
