I will forever maintain to my grave that Pokemon lost a LOT of it's charm and soul when it stopped being a franchise made by Japanese for Japanese first and foremost, that baka gaijin could also enjoy, and enjoyed because of its Japanese-ism, and decided to become a franchise for "Everyone" by going Global/International.
Gen 1 to Gen 4 Pokemon may as well be a completely different franchise from Pokemon starting with Gen 5. The make, how everything is handled. Everything's completely different.
