I remember it clearly too. XY was disappointing, but most held out hope that the next games were going to be better. Why not? We had gone through Emerald, Platinum, HGSS, and BW2; everyone knew that Gamefreak was preparing to make another incredible third version and remake.
ORAS was announced and everyone was overjoyed, "It's fucking nothing" was all over the place but it was just a joke since there was no way that Gamefreak could make a bad remake.
Then ORAS was released and all that optimism went out the window. The lack of Battle Frontier felt like a slap to the face, as did all the other removed features. They couldn't even make a new Safari Zone, just removed so many features that the games ended up inferior to Emerald.
Then instead of Z, we get SM which took everything bad about XY and made it even worse. They even removed dungeons because Gamefreak was too retarded to model them.
Then when USUM was announced, the few people that still had optimism expected sequels on par with BW2 because, why else would Gamefreak release TWO third versions, they're not greedy!
What followed were the laziest "enhanced" versions in the franchise, pieces of shit that made everyone who bought SM a few months before feel like they were conned.
It was only after Legends that people started to regain optimism.
