Nuking entry hazards and turning them into status chip damage also fixes a lot of the problems imo, too much of the game has been centralized around entry hazards for too long. It's experimental and needs work, but I think it was a decent attempt to update the formula using gen 1 as a base and did a good job creating a fairly dynamic battle system.
I don't understand the complaints about overworld catching, you are only forced to do it a handful of times, if you don't like it then just fucking run up to the pokemon or throw one of your own to engage it at a distance. Do people really want to be forced to go through a battle sequence every time they want to catch a pokemon? I'm not arguing for battling pokemons removal, actually the opposite because I think pokemon attacking the player in the overworld and being forced to defend yourself with your own pokemon is fucking great, but what the fuck is the difference between throwing a pokeball in the overworld vs using a quickball on turn one.
