Pokemon should have done away with this stupid mechanic years ago, it's useless and ineffective, should have replaced it with a standard mana system like most other JRPGs already.

I think partially because it would be a hassle to convert the old system to a new one, maybe something like

Also, you recover 10 PP each turn, maybe it also increases with the Pokemon's level, but can't see more than 25 PP per turn at most, maybe a "wait" or "guard" (not to be confused with Protect, probably would just lower the damage instead of outright nullifying it) mechanic to recover more where you don't use a move.
Although this might be nonsense because I am also not a game designer, I just know it would be difficult to balance out.

ask the people who claim the forced EXP Share is good. Also ask them why our battles can't be 4 v 4. Not Like VGC, but 4 at a time on the field. If they want it like other JRPGs so much

The official format is already doubles despite the main game being singles, and people already like doubles much more than singles seeing how praised the battle-only spin-offs are. I can't see 4 guys because that is more than half of the party, but the closest to the traditional JRPG format would be triples and if it was adopted as the main format (given that it's reasonably balanced), can't see many people complaining

Triples seems like a common configuration for monster collecting games, Digimon Cyber Sleuth is triples, Yokai-Watch is triples, SMT if you don't count the main human character is kinda of triples too.

Wonder if despite doubles being the format for competitive the main campaign stuck to singles because of the anime, 1v1s are the standard for animation, and so to not create a disconnect they kept the single player's format as singles

You know, if quads is a problem because it is more than half the party, you could just raise the party size from 6 Pokemon to 8 Pokémon. I think a larger party size is ideal for a game like Pokémon which has hundreds of playable characters.

• Hear me out, keep the PP system.
• Ditch the 4-move limit system.
• Allow Pokemon to have more move slots than 4 as they evolve. Bulbasaur gets 4, Ivysaur gets 5, and Venosaur gets 5. This allows the Pokemon like Charizard that get an added type as they evolve to add a move of that kind.
I wouldn't mind a system like:
Ember (1PP) Flamethrower (2PP) Fire Blast (3PP) sharing a move slot.
There are already over a hundred moves in a family like this, where they are direct upgrades.

PP is just simplified and more liberal Vancian Magic system. Tbh imho Pokemon should stick it to competitive players and casuals that want brainless games, double down and slash all max amounts of PP by half + making Pokecenters actually cost money.

6 moves instead of 4 is how I would go, maybe even allow for multiple abilities, like 2 or 3 kinda like Persona's passive skills, would need to give each Pokemon at least like, 10 abilities but would allow for lot of personalization (maybe even more held item slots? 3, one for offensive items, one for defensive items, and one for effect items).

Absorb, Mega Drain, Giga Drain are already the same move, just different tiers. Adjusting PP cost is really all that is necessary.

One of the few good ideas TemTem has is its stamina system. Each mon starts with a certain amount of stamina and each move has a different cost. If you run out, you can still use moves, but it costs some HP instead.

The only problem with PP is that it's not really balanced around anything.
It somewhat made sense in the original games when there were long dungeons to trek through, where you'd want to be careful about your usage. But even in those games, it was far too generous with PP.

Now compare it to the modern games where you'll never need to do more than like 5 battles in a row.

The PP system should stay as it was, but balance the PP around 6v6 battles.
This way, everything's PP goes down. A 35 PP move is instead, like 10-15.

At the end of every battle, the PP fully restores. Ethers now only function inside of battle

Not a fan of 6 moves because it would only encourage players to build their team "tall" instead of "wide", making 99% of the 1000+ Pokemon pointless, which is already a huge problem in competitive for a long time.

turn skipping would be a fucking game-changer, even more than physical/special split. I like your suggestion, but I would make PP another stat tied to an individual Pokemon, with abilities, items, and moves that makes the PP recovery faster. For the "guard" mechanic, my idea is to redirect the incoming damage into reducing PP instead of HP.
