Every trainer, every gym, even the Sinnoh League up to Ash. Only Darkrai. Ash spent four Pokemon to take Darkrai down, then Tobias pulled out his second Pokemon, a Latios. It took Ash's last two Pokemon to take that down, ending in Ash's defeat. Tobias commended Ash, the only trainer to push him that far.
Come the finals, Tobias swept it with Darkrai alone again, becoming the champion of the tournament. After this Tobias disappeared from the anime completely, never appearing again.
