>>55211234I think part of that is due the nature of the "reset" of the Gen 2-3 jump, Your average mons didn't really NEED to be stronger then a Gen 1 equivalent Mon because in the vacuum of R/S that they were designed for a lot of the Gen 1/2 Mons were basically unavailable and they wouldn't encounter them (Until FRLG/Emerald and side game connectivity), And for Sable Eye it did have no weaknesses in Gen 3 unlike Geodude and when Fairy was introduced it and the type rework made that gimmick not apply anymore it got a Mega to pick up the slack, now that Mega being gone is another discussion, Did they undertune it? sure, but i can see the reasoning since it was a gimmick mon and IIRC available pretty early (Granite Cave, so potentially before the Second Gym IIRC).
Gen 3 Mons were basically a product of their time. It is kinda fun how some gens have quirks like that, like Gen7 Original Mons are pretty slow on average i think.
