But as a whole Pikachu, Mewtwo, Lucario and Pokemon Trainer all make a lot of sense as picks to represent the series, and if they were to cut any characters, these are the ones I feel should stay over all else
Jigglypuff is extremely dated, and was only relevant due to the early days of the anime, but was most likely an easy pick because they could use Kirby as a base for her, seeing as Meowth was a far more relevant character, and only just got retired in the anime, I would have personally picked him instead if it were up to me
Pichu is a clear rep for both Gen 2 and baby Pokemon, and I assume a stand in for the Pichu Bros in the anime (even with an event referencing them in Melee), I really don't think its needed, but I get it
Greninja and Incineroar I'm not as much of a fan of, mostly because I feel like singling out a starter is kind of shitty on a personal level, and there's loads of other options from the generations they could use
Someone else in this thread also pointed it out, but Plusle and Minun as a duo were seemingly planned for Brawl, and they would have been a nice inclusion as a way to represent double battles, which are like the only alternate battle type that is still relevant to this day
