Battling is half-baked and almost entirely optional.
Almost every item you pick up is totally useless since crafting doesn't matter aside from pokeballs or sometimes medicine.
The pokedex mechanics are completely inane and tedious to the point of ridiculousness, like making a Shinx use tackle 20 times.
The game is not good. Only reason it's praised so highly is because Game Freak did something slightly different for the first time ever. Really says a lot about the Pokemon fanbase.
Caveat, some things about the game are good like the characters and boss battles but the game is still wasted potential at best. And why the fuck are you bringing up the DS games for no reason?
