poison and dark were supposed to be the evil types(dark is literally "Evil" in japanese) but either game freak doesnt have the stones to stick to that design philosophy, or they cant help but constantly add "clever" subversions. im strongly favoring the former theory, as the later would have more villanous fighting and bug types(whose type interations with dark literally being an ultraman reference) or more evil fairies(troons and the unseelie court being execllent justifications for this)
