When did you realize Smogon’s fanfic format is an irrelevant joke that isn’t worth playing and switch to 3v3 instead? For me it was when they banned Dynamax.

Showdown's player count averages at around 10000 users at any given time.
I doubt SV's online matches are much than that.

That's basically Showdown's playerbase.
The fact that cartridge players also use it for reference only further illustrates how large and influential Smogon is.
