>Why did he come back now of all times? The smell of the Mythical Pecha Berry awakened him from his slumber.
>Why were they revived now? This is the one thing that makes no sense to me. If Pecharunt only woke up during the event, it can't have revived the Loyal Three. But there is a jolt of the same purple energy effect right before they are revived. Who knows.
>How has no one ever heard about this pokemon? It was lost to time. Since the Loyal Three were hailed as heroes and Ogerpon as an demon, the presence of both Orgepon's master and Pecharunt disappeared from common knowledge. The story of Orgepon's master was preserved within the maskmaker's lineage but presumably he didn't know about Pecharunt, only Ogerpon did.
Some nips on twitter were theorizing that maybe one of the story signs in Kitakami has vestiges of him. I don't really believe it but it is fun to think about: it says that the oni (the word can also mean monster, not just ogre) can steal the soul of people who look upon its face. This makes no sense with Ogerpon (unlike the other parts of the story talking about the Oni's violence), but fits Pecharunt's mind control. So putting on the mask to keep the oni from stealing one's soul worked by preventing pecharunt from force-feeding the villagers mochi.
The reason I think this doesn't work is because no one would confuse Pecharunt for someone wearing a mask, but the Japanese wording is a lot more ambiguous (talking about a shadowy figure coming from the opposite direction, not a masked figure specifically, but the part about "passing each other as mask-wearers whether you are human or oni" is the same) a number of nips were convinced of this interpretation.
