Because then they'd have to have a separate animation for "falls asleep and gets hit" and "falls asleep and uses a move through Sleep Talk". So it's easiest to just make them close their eyes.

as superfluous as it is, its definitely in the realm of possibility. gamefreak added a gajillion context sensitive animations for stuff like perched flying mons and swimming aquatic mons, it really could not be that hard to go the extra mile

Lucky Punch I think is for some weird flavor, Chansey is pretty much the Pokémon equivalent of a Metal Slime and all those other rare and quirky monsters in RPGs, so I guess someone at GF simply thought the idea funny

For plain shit items like Sticky Barbs I guess it's just trying stuff and see what sticks, no pun intended, you can see that even if there's plenty mediocre items in the newer gens it at least looks like GF is getting an idea of what could be something worth adding

The Incense items (full, lax, luck etc.) were introduced in gen 5 as a way to breed the new Baby pokemon forms. They were otherwise Meh and could be replaced by other held items that did the same effect. Furthermore, the fact that both *sea* and *wave* incense exist, and both boost the power of water type moves - they can even be redundant with THEMSELVES.

Again, removed in Scarlet and Violet - now you breed baby eggs when you breed those 9.

I think it's a mix of >>55229621 and having every falling asleep animation take the same amount of time for every pokémon (and moreover, take the least amount of time possible) for pvp reasons. Same reason why PLA didn't need the Pokémon to be the same set distance every battle while SV does.

Such a pain in the ass in the more expensive restaurants in XY. Sometimes I wonder if I should just build a Mega Pinsir with Feint just to fuck over those assholes delaying me from reaching the target turns.

i never bothered with the turn targets. I just clicked Water Spout on my kyogre over and over to get a ton of Balm Mushrooms and some exp. Those assholes just wasted my time.

Like Soundproof/Cacophony. They should have never scrapped Cacophony, it was literally made for the Whismur line.

As much as I love the depth, stuff like this is why I think they should just do a reset in Gen 10. Get rid of all of the bloat. They've already cut mons so just simplify moves, abilities, all of the superfluous items that do the same thing, animations that aren't used. As well as making sure to limit the games scope like PLA did. By doing this they can focus time on the games quality. They just have too many obscure items and moves to test and honestly imo a hard reset would even be good for the competitive scene which has been stall and defensive for waaaaay too long
