Meltan's reveal was so based. It was the first time in years that the series had a reveal that wasn't leaked by leakers or dataminers, so there was an actual sense of confusion and mystery. Probably the most exciting thing to happen to the series in the last 20 years, except maybe the spaceworld leak.

Remember Manaphy? A pokemon who you had to obtain through a side game, an event distribuition, or have genned and traded to you, all the way from Diamond / Pearl up through Legends Arceus?

Give it a few years, Meltan / Melmetal will be that for any future collectors who want a living pokedex,

Assuming Gamefreak doesn't collapse into a hole of bad programming.

I know technically in universe mythicals are so elusive they aren't tied to any region for the most part but are they gen 7 pokemon or gen 8 pokemon....

Meltan and Melmetal are literally the only pokémon not tied to any region. Every national Pokedex they appear in groups them separately from Alola and Galar pokémon
