Ignoring the gameplay itself, just comparing the quality and polish of the two games, it is clear that PLA is far superior, but why? Just the animations, movement, terrain meshes, UI, performance, visual effects, it's a night and day difference. For example, compare the animations for when you throw out your Pokémon in the overworld. In SV, there isn't even a proper fucking Pokéball animation, makes me think they added it last minute in response to PLA's positive reception. Or the mount movement in PLA compared to SV's 'Raidons. There's turning animations in PLA whereas in SV there are none, they just rotate abruptly, and it's overall less smoother. Surprisingly, I don't see anyone else talk about it much, but the drop in quality really bothered me.

>>55231691 The director of PLA (Iwao) actually seems to care about Pokemon, even if he is rather inexperienced over all.
Director of SV (Ohmori) not only was groomed by Masuda, he's also doesn't care and just sees Pokemon as a simple paycheck.

>>55231733 >I really hope that through the Switch era, GAME FREAK finally understands what real fans of Pokémon want (people who hated SwShit, BDSPiss and Scat/Vomit and praised PLA). KEK! Swsh and sv are thé second and fourth best selling pokemon games of all time and bdsp is the best selling remake despite being made by a third party. Meanwhile plass flopped harder than even let’s go. you retards bought every single Pokémon game on switch anyway EXCEPT for the single one you pretend to like.

And Iwao is just a better director it seems.
Which is why none of the good things from PLA had time to be carried over to SV.
Gen 10 will probably have the PLA improvements.

>>55231810 BDSP was a failure since it only barely outsold a 3DS game on a substantially more popular platform. They would've had higher internal projections and expectations considering just how popular Sinnoh is as a region (mainly because Gen 4 was an extra long generation so more people were exposed to Sinnoh)

>>55231965 >XY is their first 3D game, ORAS will have improvements >ORAS was made using the XY engine, Gen 7 will be better >SM is still on the 3DS so you can't really expect anything better than what we already got >USUM is made using the SM engine; once Gen 8 gets here it will be better >LGPE are their first Switch game, Gen 8 proper will be better >SS was developed in parallel to LGPE, the next Switch game will be better How many CONSECUTIVE bad games does Game Freak need to release before you start to doubt them?

>>55231712 >he's also doesn't care and just sees Pokemon as a simple paycheck. I don't really care what you think of the guy's ability to direct, but it's pretty clear from interviews and his words that he cares a whole lot about the games he makes. SV's story was only as good as it was because he was apparently drawing from personal events when it was drafted.

>>55231997 >BDSP was a failure since it only barely outsold a 3DS game on a substantially more popular platform The DS sold almost twice as much as the GBA but DP only beat RS' sales by 2 million~, does that mean Gen 4 was a flop too?

>>55232002 Actions speak louder than words. You can claim you care about something, but if every time you do it the results are bad, eventually people will realize you don't mean it.

>>55231999 They have the potential though, I think they just need to make Iwao or any other person like Morimoto the director again. Or at least put Iwao on all revisits.
I used to be skeptical of the people arguing that the director makes a difference but the fact that the first 3D Pokemon game I can ever say I truly loved is the one not made by Ohmori proves me wrong.

>>55232024 >Gaming is a lot more popular now than in 2007 Holy shit shut the fuck up. Not only was Pokemon ITSELF massively responsible for the place gaming has among billion-dollar industries now, but it's also unique in that it penetrated several demographics that otherwise wouldn't have been invested in the gaming landscape at the point in which it was created. It will pretty much ALWAYS have an audience, and that combined with the DS' explosive success should've meant substantially more interest in their premier entry on Nintendo's newest handheld if this shitty logic is being followed.

>>55232044 Firstly, you split one thought into two sentence needlessly, making them look wholly unrelated. Learn what a semicolon is.
Secondly, Wyrdeer doesn't really have a turn animation either, they just simulate one by having it shift forward every time you want to change directions no matter how hard you press down on the stick. This is most obvious when turning from front to back.

>>55232256 >No, PLA was a complete game I like PLA but I really don't agree with this. Implementation of the ridemons felt clunky as fuck (the fact that the speed up was tied to B meaning you couldn't shift the camera while moving at max speed was retarded), the maps felt underbaked in terms of geometry and points of interest (it takes until the literal last two areas of FIVE to get any interesting cave interiors), trainer battles were overly rare even in contexts where more would've made sense like at Sisu's training grounds or Warden rematches, the battle system for trainers was fucking awful and felt like a massive shit was taken over the series' consideration of base mechanics built up over 20 years, and the research milestones felt copypasted and repetitive-belying a clear "quantity over quality" approach to their implementation.
It felt like an above-average proof-of-concept when all was said and done
