It's pretty sad how fucking low the standards are for sprites in general.

Zoomers will automatically cock suck any game simply for sprites existing with no regard for how high quality the sprites are.

The whole model criticisms didn't start until Gamefreak cut the dex and claimed it was to have high quality models and animations. As soon as they said that, people started taking apart the shitty models and call them out for their shit.

Anything that isn't a Mega Man Asset flip, Atari 2600 quality or the Mojon Twins quality is fine.

I think one of the biggest fallacies is when sprite artists think you don't have to know how to draw to make pixel art is what gets me.

if you mean literally "KNOW how to draw" as in possessing knowledge of artistic basics then yes but it's not like one needs to be able to physically draw well to make sprites

I'm just saying that a good spriter isn't necessarily going to be able to draw you a pretty picture if you hand them a paper and pencil because there's more to that than just knowing how to do it
