>>55263587Blue Version, September 1998. It was the first time I wanted anything or asked for anything outside of xmas/birthday, so it was the first time I did any kind of chores. Before this, I enjoyed games very casually, but was not obsessed, and never heard the term "RPG" until being mindblown by Golden Sun several years later. At this point I had an SNES, an original Game Boy, and even an N64 with SM64 and DKCR. After Pokemon though, my eyes really opened up and I started playing lots of different games more frequently.
Already blessedly had an original Game Boy which I never used. When Game Boy Pocket was announced, I was so jealous, always wanted one. But then the GB Color was announced so I saved my money until then, and was not disappointed.
>>55263618Without the context of Red/Blue, what did you think about Kanto? Did it make you want to play Red/Blue?
I too was with my parents on long trips regularly. 6+ hours a few times every year x_x Initially I had no light peripheral, but eventually had a few solutions and finally landed on the Wormlight which I still use. But I feel you. I always kept spare batteries, too. Gotta keep an eye on that power indicator.
>>55263631Always felt bad for people who played Yellow first. It's basically an anime fangame, which is a shame. Kind of takes away from the charm of the real Kanto.
>>55263644Before Pokemon released, Nintendo Power had a special pack-in for many issues called Pokemon Power. In it was a loads of stuff including a strategy guide for the whole game, and even a comic version of the anime before it aired. I loved looking at the Sugimori art, and thought Bulbasaur was the most alien and interesting, since lizard and turtle were already too familiar and I wanted to dive into an alien world. And I dived in deep.
