Brock literally has a stronger Pokemon on his own team.
Brock’s Onix, doesn’t learn anything besides Normal moves in Gen 1.
You, regardless of its fucking attack, will learn about type effectiveness even before Brock if you picked either Charmander or Bulbasaur even before Brock because of the trainers in Viridian Forest.
You even learn it before Brock with the trainers inside Brock’s own gym if you picked Squirtle or Bulbasaur since the trainer uses ground types.
There is literally 0 (Zero) reasons as to why Onix should have such low Atk.
It teaches you literally nothing as any info you could have been taught would happen before the fight and you don’t even learn about rock type’s offensive effectiveness.
You wouldn’t make the fight that much hard as Tackle barely does anything and his other move does fixed damage.
It means that any future trainers that use Onix, like say Bruno, are now royally fucked as they have a weak as shitmon.
It means when you eventually find it in Rock Tunnel, this super cool giant snake monster, it’s going to do shit damage.
It also makes 0 sense as the next gym leader directly after Brock has fucking Starmie, which is miles better than Onix, AND as a reminder, Brock has a Geodude which is also stronger.
