>game starts as normal
>you get to the first gym
>your obvious rival is there, angry at being barred entry from the gym
>decides to prove how capable his pokemon are by battling you
>his pokemon are clearly hacked, using moves and abilities that shouldn't be possible
>after you beat him, he storms out in a huff
>the "champ in the making" guy explains that they've been getting a lot of trainers using ineligible pokemon
>you're later introduced to the evil team, where the grunts all have hacked pokemon
>rival is also part of the team, has some issues with insecurity and feeling like a failure as a trainer, thinking that modifying them is helping them
>admins have much more bullshit hacked mons
>MAYBE the game will let you hack your mons, but it'll drop their happiness/affection to 0 and make it come back very slowly, or add some other debuff like permanently having a negative status effect, not sure
>sometimes you'll encounter wild pokemon who were hacked (failures who were released) and can have completely random abilities or moves as well as debuffs
>you defeat the boss, with the most bullshit hackmons of all time
>the boss starts crying, saying that he did it because he loved his pokemon and wanted them to reach their full potential
>the champion shows up and lectures him about how pokemon are perfect the way they are, and that if you change them, you're not letting them be themselves
>rival comes back with unhacked pokemon and battles you in victory road, thanking you for showing him the light
>redeemed boss appears in the postgame with a facility that lets you modify IV's, natures, moves, and abilities, but only within what the Pokemon could already naturally do, letting them healthily explore their potential without mutilating them
>this facility can also be used to unhack wild hackmons
