I used to dislike shiny Scizor, but gen 9 makes it look amazing. They also made shiny Gengar look great.

I didn't mind subtle shinies before, but ever since they became viewable in the overworld, I hate them.

I’d argue Garchomp is a case of a shiny actually getting slightly better with the transition into 3D, since it’s clearer there’s a duller/darker blue and the red has become more orange.

They either need to turn the orange into a vibrant distinct orange or just use Gible’s colours desu

My theory is they put minimal effort and they don't actuall want to make shinies cool because then it would make the normal ones look like shit. So if the casual audience catches a X and then they're like yeah but it's not a shiny X like mine (I spent 5000 hours to find it!) and people just get upset and stop liking Pokemon

It is kind of bizarre since some pokemon get wildly different shinies and some don't, and even if Gamefreak didn't feel like making special color schemes for each one, they could at least invert colors across the board or something. It almost feels like a Pokemon's shiny is entirely determined by whoever on staff feels like making one, and if no one cares then they just shift the color saturation by 1% in either direction and call it a day

That theory makes sense for a lot of Pokemon in gen 2, 3, and 4 games but there are Pokemon that clearly show they could make any shiny they want. If you look at gen 5 shinies it is evident they did each Pokemon individually.

because they just copy pasted charizard's eyes onto gen 1 garchomp without taking into account that gen 4 garchomp's head shape makes the eyes flat on top, yet they actually took charizard's eye shape into account when copy pasting garchomp's eyes onto it

They used to primarily do palette shifts, but Gen 6 marks the point they start manually making shiny textures since there's no longer a palette map to refer to, which is especially obvious with shinies like Heliolisk that are more distinct than we've ever had prior.
Some shinies were very specifically handpicked regardless though, such as Charizard famously going from purple in GSC to Black in Gen 3 onward.

Yeah, I remember I once tried editing a gen 3 rom and used some tool (forgot the name) that could flip between individual sprites and also had an option to shift the palletes more and more, the first pallete was always the shiny. Explains patterns like blue water mons turning purple and briwn mons turning sickly green.
Most of the shinies nowadays are still shit thougj, thank you GF.
