I don't care for gachas but I like the character designs and some of the alternate outfits are fun. Is it a retarded grindfest to be able to pull without spending money?

It's not doing badly but it's also not raking in Genshin/FGO dollars which is what DeNA and Nintendo would want for the branding. For reference, Mario Kart Tour had better revenue and they shut that shit down last year.
